Do you know what satellite to tune into to get French television?
French TV and radio are available in the UK broadcast from three main satellite positions. Astra 1 @ 19° east, Hotbird @ 13° east and Atlantic Bird 3 @ 5° west all have a good selection.
French freeview channels are now available from Astra satelitte and there is no need for a subscription. just a 80cm dish directed to Astra and a special receiver (see http://www.tvnt.fr/). For 6 - 11 year olds. Sections are divided according to ages and include working with numbers and general knowledge. There are a number of games which involve restricted language and could be used to teach concepts as well as French. For example - thermometre - which teaches the basics of temperature. There's also a good set about seasons and months of the year. The numbers games for each age group are well worth a look. A simple click on "corps humain" gives a basic vocabulary by clicking on different parts of the body.

This is an amazingly useful site designed for the under 10's. There are lots of animated songs including different versions of Happy Birthday which can be personalised by inserting a child's name. Games which introduce and practise basic vocabulary like colours and sounds of the alphabet. The graphics and level of interaction are excellent if classes are able to work online and if not there's lots of ideas which teachers could use.
